Interventions:

It is the intent of the Language Academy of Sacramento to continuously monitor the academic progress and achievement of our students. It is our goal to provide additional help to those students that show the greatest need. When necessary, interventions are provided to the students based on academic progress. We offer additional help that will assist students to improve in the academic areas of reading and math. Currently, we are offering some after school homework assistance and tutoring as well as support during the instructional day.

Enrichment:

The after school program at LAS includes an intervention component and an enrichment component. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, eligible students attend an academic intervention program after school. Teachers and staff focus instruction on literacy and comprehension in either Spanish or English, depending on the child. On Thursdays and Fridays, the after school enrichment component of our program at LAS has provided our students with access to extra-curricular activities often not available to them. For the past three years, students have had an opportunity to participate in the following classes: Golf, Capoeira, Ballet Folklorico, Arts and Crafts, Pottery, Hip-Hop Dance, Guitar, Technology, Girl Scouts, and Knitting. Our partnership with the California Musical Theatre (CMT) has allowed our students to experience drama and acting during the day as well as after school.

Program Model:

At the Language Academy of Sacramento, the method of instruction utilized is the 90-10 model of Two-Way Spanish Immersion in which a majority of the school curriculum is taught in Spanish. Students in kindergarten and first grade receive 90% of their daily instruction in Spanish and 10% in English. Each year, students receive more instruction in English as the percentage of Spanish instruction time begins to decrease. By 5th grade students receive 50% of their daily instruction in Spanish and 50% in English.
